April 2010

The program for April is called "Passion Scars" and will be presented by Peter Steele. Peter's program documents carvings in aspen trees from Steamboat Springs to Telluride, CO by sheep herders, elk hunters, the casual car camper, and homesteaders. He does not condone this act of ‘aspen graffito’ and does not carve trees himself, but he has enjoyed searching and documenting these scarred messages people have passionately expressed on the smooth bark canvas of aspen trees. The program will highlight the importance of producing a themed body of work.

Peter came to Boulder 18 years ago after receiving a degree in geology. His personal goal has been to photograph the beauty of nature, and his inspiration is the western landscape. Peter's latest efforts are called Solarography™. These fine art pieces rise and set with the sun and appear to move with the clouds by hanging them in viewless windows using the sun for illumination. Check out his work at www.solarography.com.
